I'm very picky, so there is only so much I can recommend...
Alternative: Linkin Park. It's like rap and alternative, with some EDM influences thrown in. Basically, it's some pretty diverse music. I'd definitely recommend their newest album, The Hunting Party.
Soundtrack: RWBY, obviously. The entire Sonic Franchise. Seriously, just pick a game and start listening. There's a reason Sonic's still alive. A ridiculously loyal fan-base, some amazing characters, and some kick-ass music.
EDM (Electronic Dance Music): Anything under the Monstercat record label. Blackmill is fucking amazing. Deadmau5 has a couple of good songs. I.Y.F.F.E - Drama Queen (Omar Varela remix). Biometrix - Nightmare.
Alright let's get this straight and simple: I absolutely LOVE AWOLnation, I seriously suggest you listen to them. They have some great music and it's just so fun to do anything while listening to them. I really like Kill Your Heroes, Wichita Panama and Windows.
Twenty One Pilots is my second favorite, they have a lot of goods songs and are just overall a really good band to listen to. I like Isle of Flightless Birds, Ode to Sleep, and Ride.
Modest Mouse, I don't have much to say because I only listen to some of their songs, but man are they good. They kind of sound like AWOLnation with their own unique twist. LISTEN TO WORLD AT LARGE AND FLOAT ON BACK TO BACK, you won't be disappointed.
The Kongos are a pretty good band, if I was going to compare I would say they sound a lot like Imagine Dragons.
Two Door Cinema Club doesn't seem very popular around here, I'm not due if it's a USA thing or just a Texas thing or if they aren't popular at all. However they are a great band with great music, most are fast paced fun songs while they slow paced songs sound nice. Some of my favorites are Pyramid, What You Know, SUN, Sleep Alone, and Beacon.
I also like:
- Pokemon R/B/G/Y, R/S/E, OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire, and X/Ys Soundtrack
Well, I don't know where to begin, since I like so many songs...
Okay, so basically ANYTHING VOCALOID, I recommend. You got Japanese, Korean, (Mandarin, 98% sure) Chinese, English, and Spanish to choose from, plus some edits and twerks to make more languages, albeit very weird and slightly displeasing to the ears. If you DARE ask me to list down all the VOCALOID songs I recommend, I have a list of 50+, which may SEEM like a lot, but it's not. Really. Want a song about death?Kagerou Daze. Video games?Death Should not Have Taken Thee!Cats? Nyanyanyanyanyanya! THE ORIGINAL NYAN CAT.
I prefer nightcore over dubstep, sorry. Basically, any song I can think of would sound amazhing as a Nightcore. Especially slower songs like Ayano's Theory of Happiness. I promise you, those sound hilarious yet funny.
Ah, the occasional J-pop covers I hear on NND. Those sound good. If you ask me for VOCALOID covers, 96Neko all the way. The tapioca-loving, slightly masculine sounding, crazy good, Len loving woman is an AMAZING singer you should hear
K-pop, J-pop, OPM and whatnot
Well, I don't just like VOCALOID. I patronize my home country too you know! OPM (Original Pinoy Music) is actually quite nice, though there are some which are just... eew. There is an OPM. With a dude. Singing about being a mermaid.
K-pop is good too, though I haven't heard much apart from Girls Generation and EXO. ^^'
J-pop is kinda like K-pop... I don't count VOCALOID and Anime soundtracks as J-pop, wow... so, I don't know much non-VOCALOID/Anime singers, but Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is hilariously cute! In a weird way...
American songs, and most English songs... well... it's mixed. Nowadays, all I can hear is... inappropriate. I DO prefer older songs from the Beatles, Jackson, etc. Man in the Mirror, Let it Be, stuff like that. That doesn't mean I DON'T LIKE new songs; When I see you Again, You Belong With Me, Jr of Hearts, A Thousand Years, they all fit.
Anime Soundtracks, Movie Soundtracks
First of all, almost EVERY SINGLE ANIME OP AND ED IS AMAZING. Like, Inari Kon Kon, Koi Iroha has a wonderful opening that's upbeat and a softer ending (This was reversed in the last episode, where Opening became Ending and Vice-versa). Chihayafuru also has some good songs. Fairy Tail has a good variety, from soft songs like ED 13 to loud, upbeat like OP 12 to rap from OP 8, if I remember.
Musicals are good! Movies too! Lion King soundtrack (ESPECIALLY CIRCLE OF LIFE) is good! Phantom of the Opera and Love Never Dies had some AMAZING songs. I can't say that they were bad!
Multilanguage and Dubbed Covers
I JUST HAD TO SEPARATE THIS. I absolutely love multilanguage covers! THEY JUST... I love it! I even forced myself to memorize the multilanguage cover of Let it Go, which I can sing quite well? Okay, maybe I sound derpy on Russian and the other European languages...
AND WHO DOESN'T LIKE TO HEAR FRENCH COVERS OF JAPANESE SONGS?
Instrumentals, Off Vocals, Music Box
No, I don't count them as covers. Why? Well, they have their own... bling... they sound amazing! Honestly, they do. If you hear something so amazing, ALWAYS search the Instrumental Version. Trust me, some sound REAL GOOD.
Too many recommendations? Too bad, I got loads. I'M SORRY FOR MY PASSION IN MUSIC! Q^Q
Medleys are just... SOSOSOSOSO GOOD! Especially VOCALOID, 8-Bit, and English medleys. :3
Oh gosh, someone, should I stop!? I think I put too much...
Oh dear, I suppose I shouldn't be so lengthy when I type out in topics I like... I suppose you'd like some links? I'll put some down. Ayano's Theory of Happiness for soft Japanese VOCALOID (I would post the symbols, but that would be too hard to understand). Star ng Pasko for OPM, well, my favorite OPM song. Oh! And... a Multilanguage cover of The Lost One's Weeping using Hetalia pictures. Tales-trash-chan would love to see and hear that. All of those songs belong to their respectful owners, and... do be cautious of the songs. The first has feels, the second has Christmas feels, the third has noise. And I mean noise and high notes. When it comes to me and music, I rant on forever and ever and ever...
You can't exactly understand the lyrics but I think you should listen to it.
Meg & Dia- Monster (Dotexe Remix) (Link here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7RKOP87tt4) <p class="yt watch-title-container" style="margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:13px;display:table-cell;vertical-align:top;color:rgb(34,34,34);overflow:hidden;font-family:arial,sans-serif;background-image:initial;background-attachment:initial;background-size:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial;background-position:initial;background-repeat:initial;"> <p class="yt watch-title-container" style="margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:13px;display:table-cell;vertical-align:top;color:rgb(34,34,34);overflow:hidden;font-family:arial,sans-serif;background-image:initial;background-attachment:initial;background-size:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial;background-position:initial;background-repeat:initial;"> <p style="font-weight:normal;">This song is kinda short and repetitive but it's still definently a good song.
I like a lot of music genres, but my favorites are 80's, 90's, and early-2000s music, typically in the Rock and Alternative genres.
David Bowie, Duran Duran, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Queen, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Guns N Roses, Joan Jett, Foreigner, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Tom Petty, Dead Kennedys, The Police, Tears For Fears, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Run D.M.C., Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, NWA, Aerosmith, Journey, Depeche Mode, Blondie, Talking Heads, Heart, Pink Floyd, and many more that I'll add later.
I'll add to this later.
As for game music... I'm not 100%.
Anime music... Uh... most of it sounds like the same weeby crap.
I'll listen to basically anything so long as it sounds good. A lot of the popular music nowadays (so old) isn't the best in terms of like... morals, or what the song is about, not to say there aren't good things though, that's in general.
Popular music from 2009 and around then is almost always good :3 childhood memories are strong. There are some good messages in those songs too. But that's only Pop.
Pop punk, punk rock, alternative rock, sometimes even death metal hear me out, has always been good and hasn't really changed. Some more recent bands, and these guys are really good, include Mayday Parade, Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, My Chemical Romance (I STILL HAVE SCARS FROM 2013), Paramore, Skillet, P!nk, Simple Plan, The Script, and many more oh god so much yes.
Music in other languages is always interesting. J-Pop, J-Rock, K-Pop, all interesting even though you haven't a clue what they're saying, in fact my theme is by FLOW, a Japanese band. Vocaloid is... go talk to Haru, he can stress how amazing it is better than me. Nightcore is cool because it just speeds everything up, stuff you could probably lift weights to. And if you're into screamo and dark music like that, there's a German, alternative/industrial metal band called "Rammstein" and the language just makes it 10x angrier. But seriously, they're pretty good.
Rap is... it can be good. I know two very good songs that happen to be rap: "Remember the Name" by Fort Minor and "Same Love" by Macklemore. Yes, "Same Love" by Macklemore. Sure, it's corny as hell but I love it for that reason and more... and "Remember the Name" (uncensored pls) is just awesome.
Indie and Bollywood are also genres to look into. Indie can have some pretty good vocals and Bollywood has some great music, a bit Eastern but if it weren't it would be the same, right?
Ahhh... OSTs from anime and movies, all good. The Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan OST is far from overrated (go check it out) and I swear, the worse the Sonic the Hedgehog game the better the soundtrack. Best evidence of this is in the Sonic '06 and Sonic Unleashed OSTs.
But. By far the best. The best music ever. Would have to be. Brought to us by DJ Earworm. "United States of POP". Don't even talk to me. Just go listen. The channel.
